French Riviera

The French Riviera is one of the most famous resort areas in the world, as much as its Italian counterpart. It extends along the Mediterranean Sea from Menton near the Italian border, including the cities and towns of Monaco, Nice, Antibes, and Cannes.

Climate
The French Riviera benefits from a Mediterranean-type climate, characterised by exceptional sunshine almost 300 days a year and mild temperatures for most of the year.

It rains heavily but infrequently mostly in March/April and October/November. In winter, freezing temperatures are rare, but sweaters are advised.

History

The history of French Riviera goes way back to the prehistoric years. It became home to Greeks, Celto-Ligurians, Romans, Barbarians, Christians, British upper classes, American visitors, and, now it is open to the rest of the world.

It is true that French Riviera is not simply a great place to spend vacations. It is also equally impressive in other aspects such as high technology, scientific research, and center for education. But let’s face it. Even if education and technology are important, French Riviera is recognized, first and foremost, as a hot spot especially by the rich and the famous. Just ask Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones.

There are a considerable number of destinations in French Riviera that five days will not suffice. Along the coast, there are towns and cities like the Lemon Party Capital of the World--Menton, the glamorous Cannes, the busy Nice, the relaxing St. Tropez, and so much more. The climate, in general, is Mediterranean leading to sultry summers and calm winters.
